HOW A BRIDLE SHOULD BE FITTED

A well fitting bridle should do up on the centre holes. The cheek and the noseband buckles should be in line with the horses eye. If you want the bridle for a young horse and wish to allow for growth please let us know when ordering your bridle.

The browband should not pull the headpiece forward on to the ears neither should it sag and drop down the forehead.

The noseband should sit approximately two fingers below the end of the cheek bones and be loose enough to allow two fingers sideways between it and the nose.

The throatlash when done up on the centre hole should be loose enough to allow four fingers sideways between it and the nose.

When fitting a bridle the bit must sit correctly in the mouth. If you are unsure please take advice. If you use a dutch gag or hanging snaffle for example, the cheekpieces may need to shorter than when using an ordinary snaffle.

Rein length is dependant on the length of the horses neck and the purpose for which you are using them.

Reins need to be long enough to allow the horse to stretch his neck out but not so long as to get tangled round the riders feet.

We can provide a choice of two fitting forms - one to measure the horses head and one to measure an existing bridle. Please ask for more information.
